Akhil Akkineni, son of veteran actor Nagarjuna, made his debut as a lead actor with V. V. Vinayak’s Akhil (2015). Despite generating huge pre-release buzz, the film opened to mixed reviews and ended up as a box-office failure. Hoping to bounce back, Akhil teamed up with Vikram K. Kumar for the romantic drama Hello (2017), which earned positive reviews but failed to achieve commercial success, partly due to competition from Nani’s MCA.

He followed it up with Venky Atluri’s romantic comedy Mr. Majnu (2019). Backed by Thaman’s popular soundtrack, the film carried decent expectations but received mixed reviews and managed only an average run at the box office. Akhil finally tasted success with Most Eligible Bachelor (2021), directed by Bhaskar and co-starring Pooja Hegde. Supported by Geetha Arts and Gopi Sundar’s chartbuster music, the romantic entertainer emerged as a commercial success and gave the young actor his first major hit.

Looking to build on that momentum, Akhil took up the high-budget action thriller Agent (2023), directed by Surender Reddy. However, the film was heavily criticized and turned out to be one of the biggest failures of the year, once again putting his career under pressure. Now, Akhil has pinned all his hopes on Lenin, directed by Murali Kishore Abburu and starring Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead. The film is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of the actor’s career.
